Most of our projects are

Unconventional Projects

The form or process are always unique

We have been asked to create a golf course for one person. We were asked to find as much golf in 125 acres as possible and found three different types of courses. We have created kids courses, putting courses and even lead the charge for a PGA Tour course. We are currently working on a 12 hole executive course that is half par 3s and half par 4s.

We hope all of our clients and future projects are somewhat unconventional. One may have seen something like this before but maybe not used in that way before.

We aim for our work to stand out as different.

Three Grand is a par 3 course enjoyable for the beginner and expert.
Three Grand + the Grand Putter surround an environmental area and will provide golf for an entire community.

We provided a concept to connect the course, clubhouse and community center with a winding series of paths and plantings.
At River Oaks Country Club, where we were project managers, the short course is extremely popular.
Just as popular are the kids summer camps.
The summer camps do teach fundamentals also.
Some SNAG golf at the facility we designed in Michigan.
At our work in Texas City the young are always welcome.
But until we built the putting course, there wasn't any structured opportunity for the young to play.
So we added a pitch-n-putt course too. We even initiated the land donation process.
The pitch-n-putt course is frequented by the local high school beginners.
Finishing the 9 holes for "homework".
At Memorial Park we planned and helped design the new First Tee course.
The First Tee course doubles as a PGA Tour practice area during the Houston Open.
At Memorial they used to catch 5 acres of rainwater for irrigation. We designed the new system to catch over 60 acres.
Turning a practice area into a family golf offering can only help a club membership.
It seems most forward tees are just a little shorter. We work to have everyone enjoy the course more appropriately.
Your own course doesn't have to be 18 holes.
The most unconventional part of building a golf course for one person was our client, Al.
This chart shows the construction budget over time, and how we continually saved resources (that is a 40% decrease).
Don Mahaffey trained the ranch staff on construction, grow-in and maintenance.
With little irrigation and a gang mower, Wolf Point was as fast and firm as any other course.
The holes were designed as if there were no par, just with as much variety as possible. Wolf Point was a match play course.
The local farmers dug the lake, between their harvests, far more economically than anyone else. They made better sweet corn relish too!
Building a top 100 course on a "nothing" site.
Dream 18 by Golf Magazine.
Our 2nd round on the course with Al.
Mahaffey and I with the lead farmer Bobby O.
We have worked in some unconventional places too.
You can build a redan with artificial turf if you wish.
A plan to convert practice holes into a 6 hole municipal course.
My Boston University aerospace engineering degree has been put to good use.
Using manufacturing principles for satellites translates to economical design for golf.
Iterative surveillance and design
It helps to be able to tackle the bigger engineering problems.
Tom Doak recognized our unconventional work as a gourmet choice!
Which lead to collaboration at Memorial Park.
Pete Dye taught Doak a ton about construction.
The Keiser's also appreciate the unconventional.
Our approach leads to similar success.

Unconventional Processes

They led to the best course in Texas - Golf Magazine

During the construction of Wolf Point it rained more than it had in over a century. We didn’t fight the rain, we used the rain. The greens of today were as much the result of needing lots of surface drainage as the physical impact of melting and reshaping the surfaces themselves.

We have utilized a range of tools that allow us to push a project beyond the traditional scope and use. Our design/build process, planning, engineering, project management, irrigation philosophy, all pooled together to make each project as good as possible.
